FILTRATION CONSUMABLES

Laboratory Vacuum Filtration Systems for Liquid Processing

Vacuum filtration systems are laboratory filtration consumables designed for liquid clarification, sterile filtration, and sample preparation. During operation, negative pressure generated by an external vacuum pump draws the liquid through a microporous membrane, retaining particles, precipitates, microorganisms, and other suspended contaminants. They are suitable for filtering cell culture media, buffers, reagents, biological fluids, and other aqueous solutions for sample preparation, sterile filtration, and liquid clarification before experiments.

Structure

A vacuum filtration system typically consists of a top cap, graduated filtration funnel, microporous membrane, filtration connector, receiver bottle, and receiver cap.

  • Top Cap: Covers the filtration funnel to help reduce contamination during liquid handling and filtration.
  • Graduated Filtration Funnel: Holds the liquid to be filtered and includes volume graduations for monitoring the liquid volume.
  • Microporous Membrane: Located at the bottom of the filtration funnel, it retains particles and microorganisms. Different pore sizes and membrane materials are available for specific filtration requirements.
  • Filtration Connector: Connects the filtration funnel to the receiver bottle and includes a vacuum port for connection to vacuum tubing.
  • Receiver Bottle: Collects the filtered liquid and is commonly available in capacities of 150 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, and 1000 mL.
  • Receiver Cap: Seals the receiver bottle after filtration for short-term storage or transfer of the filtrate.
